The BIT solution - IAS Stop Shoplifter - has been implemented in stores of 14 retail chains in the largest cities of Russia, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Ufa, Kazan, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, Volgograd, Chelyabinsk. Part of the solution is the algorithm, which allows you to recognize the face of a potential intruder, as well as determine his gender and age.
In total, in 2018, the system identified 64,743 citizens who committed petty theft. Most often, these are men (about 78% of all identified) aged 18 to 35 years (this age group accounted for about 60% of people). Combining video analytics data with data from open statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for January-November 2018 gave BIT reason to supplement the portrait of a shoplifter: most often he does not have a permanent source of income, he has already committed illegal acts, and with a probability of more than 30% he is in a state of intoxication. The average amount of theft was 1 thousand rubles.
“We have been implementing facial recognition in the cameras of stores from large retail chains for more than two years. They are mainly used to prevent petty theft. The Stop Shoplifter solution helps retail organizations significantly reduce lost profits - according to analysts, losses from shoplifters' actions can amount to 2-3% of the store's turnover,” BIT noted.
There were also some funny situations. So, in one of the stores of the network, all employees were added to the database of persons of the IAS "Stop Shoplifter" to keep records of their working hours. As a result, it turned out that more than 10 employees regularly committed theft, both from competitors and in their own stores.
The introduction of biometric technologies in various fields is a growing trend in Russia. According to analysts, the Russian market of biometric technologies over the past four years has shown active growth at the level of 35.74% CAGR. According to J'son & Partners Consulting forecasts, by the end of 2022 the market will grow two and a half times compared to 2018.
